In the midst of COVID-19, access to food has become increasingly
difficult. With everything else going on in the world, basic needs should
be the least of your worries, Slugs. This quarter at the Cowell Coffee
Shop, we are proud to be able to provide the UCSC community with our
very own meal kit program!
Meal kits have become a popular offering during this pandemic, with
well-known restaurants such as Shake Shack now selling their meal
components for patrons to cook and assemble at home. At the Cowell
Coffee Shop, our meal kits are filled with organic, locally sourced
ingredients as well as a couple of Foodsmith meals. Although we include
a recipe revolving around the meal kit’s theme, folx are encouraged to
get creative with the ingredients and utilize them in any way that they
desire! Our meal kit themes thus far have featured classic nourishing
dishes such as ramen, burritos, and chicken ‘n dumplings. There are
vegetarian and omnivore options available for each kit, so it is
important to take note of this when signing up for a kit.
For those who are interested in signing up for a meal kit, you can make
an appointment at this link https://www.wejoinin.com/sheets/yprnj.
Meal kit distributions take place every Friday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at
the Cowell Coffee Shop! We have had a great turnout each week thus
far, and we are excited to see what the future holds for our meal kit
program!
Update
Thank you to everyone who participated in our meal kit program during Spring Quarter! If you are interested in making any of these meals, we have compiled all of Spring Quarter's meal kit recipes into a google folder. We can't wait to see you all again for Fall Quarter's distribution!
